The development of cooperation between Iran and India will contribute to the security of the region

The Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, has stated that the development of defense and military cooperation between Iran and India can contribute to the increase of security and stability in the region. According to "Detq", this was reported by the Iranian pro-government "Mehr" news agency.

In a meeting with the Indian Defense Minister Giridhar Araman, Ashtiani said that the two countries are located in a strategically important region.

"Many opportunities for cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi can be used to establish peace and security in the sensitive region of West Asia and the Indian subcontinent," he asserted.

The head of Iran's defense department emphasized that the two countries should strengthen cooperation to prevent the revival of the "Islamic State" terrorist group. In this context, he urged the two countries to hold additional consultations regarding the events taking place in Afghanistan.

In his turn, the Indian Defense Minister expressed condolences over the killing of Iranian military advisers in Syria and emphasized the importance of strengthening security and peace in the region.

He called for the development of bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector, participation in naval exercises, defense research, as well as cooperation in the field of education.
