NATO will need 35-50 additional brigades to fully implement its new plans to defend against Russian attacks, Reuters reported.

An agency source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, declined to provide any details about the programs, which are classified. The brigade consists of 3,000-7,000 servicemen, so creating another 35-50 such units will become a serious problem, News.am reports.

One sign of the scale of the problem NATO faces in taking a Russian offensive more seriously in 2022 After the invasion of Ukraine, a source in the security industry said that Germany alone had to increase its air defense capabilities four times.

At the Vilnius summit last year, NATO leaders agreed on the alliance's first major defense plans in more than three decades, and since then officials have been working to implement those documents as concrete military requirements.

NATO leaders are expected to receive an update on Washington's plans this week at a summit marking the 75th anniversary of the transatlantic alliance.

Asked to comment on the situation, the NATO representative said that the alliance's military planners have determined the detailed requirements for troops and weapons, which must be met for the defense of the alliance.

"Air and anti-missile defense, long-range weapons, logistics, as well as large ground military formations are among our main priorities. NATO is likely to set larger goals for allies as possible as we develop forces that can implement our plans and meet the threats we face. We are sure that our deterrence exists and will be strong," the official said.

The Ministry of Defense in Berlin refused to comment on NATO's future plans, as they are secret. The ministry said that all allies have been called upon to coordinate demands with NATO as much as possible, and that these efforts will continue until next year.
