First Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and European Affairs Yuri Kim stated that Armenia's search for alternatives does not mean that Yerevan's relations with Moscow are deteriorating.

According to "Armenpress", Yuri Kim announced this while speaking as a speaker at the discussion "The role of the USA in the establishment of a new regional order in the South Caucasus".

It is reported that in addition to Kim, former ambassador to Armenia and Ukraine and Carnegie Program senior expert on Russia and Eurasia Marie Yovanovitch, as well as director of Carnegie University's European Program, former US ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Dan Baer also participated in the discussion.

"Armenia is looking for alternatives. This does not mean that his relations with Russia are deteriorating. We are very eager to provide as much support as possible to Armenia's efforts aimed at diversifying its relations, strengthening its security, economic prosperity and signing a peace treaty with its adversary," Kim said.

The latter, speaking about the ongoing peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasized that Washington is trying to establish ties between Yerevan and Baku in order to help sign a peace agreement.

He also added that the US is considering other options for providing support to Armenia, including through the US Agency for International Development.

“In the current fiscal year, it is about 77 million, which is almost double what it was just two years ago. Those funds will be directed to Armenia's stability in issues such as climate and food security, as well as to lift Armenia out of isolation," said Kim.
