Because of the blockade of Artsakh, serious problems have arisen for water supply. Mayor of Stepanakert: "Armenpress.am"
Mayor of Stepanakert Davit Sargsyan notes that the complete blockade of Artsakh by Azerbaijan has created a crisis situation for almost all branches of life activity in Stepanakert. Under the conditions of the blockade, Stepanakert Municipality emphasizes on saving the very scarce resources and using them purposefully if necessary.
In an interview with "Armenpress", Davit Sargsyan presented details about the situation and problems created as a result of the complete blockade of Artsakh.
“Mr. Sargsyan, since June 15, Azerbaijan keeps the Republic of Artsakh under complete blockade. All kinds of humanitarian supplies to Artsakh have been stopped. Before that, electricity and gas supply from Armenia was also interrupted. All these have created urgent problems in Stepanakert as of today. How does the municipality try to solve these problems?”
“The complete blockade has created a crisis situation for almost all branches of life in Stepanakert. It is with great difficulty that we are able to solve the problems of the spheres within the authority of the specific municipality, even partially, because even ordinary, everyday problems become insurmountable in the current conditions. We put the main emphasis on saving the very scarce resources available and using them in a targeted manner when absolutely necessary.”
“Especially in this hot period of summer, when it is not even possible to find water for sale in shops, in relation to water supply, what is the general situation in Stepanakert, how is water supply carried out? What are the risks in this regard, is it possible that for some reason the water supply is also scheduled?”
“Crucial factors to ensure round-the-clock water supply are the resources of the rivers feeding the system, uninterrupted power supply, availability of the necessary volume of fuel and conscientious staff. To the credit of the city's water supply organization, "Jrmugh-Koygh" company, it is today the last factor, the only reliable link in that chain. Due to the increase in temperature, the increase in the level of water evaporation in the rivers, fan outages of the power grid and lack of fuel, and in many cases its absence, create serious problems for the normal operation of the water supply system. It should be noted that along with the decrease of the water level in the rivers, the volumes of life-sustaining liquid consumption have increased. The use of potable water to irrigate vegetable crops in the lands near the houses has also contributed to this, which also imposes the blockade, because no more vegetables are imported.”
