Armenia and Iran can triple the volumes of the "gas for electricity" project. ambassador
Armenia and Iran can increase the volumes of the "gas for electricity" project, Mehdi Sobhani, Iran's ambassador to Armenia, said in an interview with "Civilnet".
"There is a gas line between the two countries, and we extended the "gas for electricity" contract two months ago. It was a big and strategic step in the relations between the two countries. Thanks to this contract, we will be able to increase the import of electricity from Armenia in exchange for gas, triple or even quadruple it. We have very good plans with Armenia. We have the third power transmission line, which I hope will be completed in the coming months," he said.
The ambassador reminded that last year the volume of trade between Armenia and Iran amounted to 711 million dollars. He expressed hope that this year that number will reach one billion.
"There is also the 32-kilometer Agarak-Kajaran road project, which is also of strategic importance and is the largest project signed between the Armenian government and Iranian companies. We have always encouraged other Iranian companies to come to Armenia and take advantage of good job opportunities in Armenia, produce here and export to other countries. In general, I can say that our trade and economic ties have a good dynamic of development, and we will resolutely continue on that path," said Sobhani.
