The film about the 44-day war won the Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival

The title of Shoghakat Vardanyan's film "1489" is the number assigned to the body of his brother Soghomon, who died in the 44-day war.

Shoghakat Vardanyan's debut film "1489" won 2 "Best Film" and "FIPRESCI" awards at the world's most prestigious documentary film festival, IDFA (Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival). The artistic director of the "Golden Apricot" film festival, Karen Avetisyan, reports the information on her Facebook page.

The wording of the jury for the main prize of the film about the 44-day war in Artsakh is as follows: "The film is a penetrating light that makes visible the vast inner world of hidden grief, creating a palpable presence from an unbearable absence. Cinema, as a survival tool, allows us to see what we prefer not to see."

According to "Sputnik Armenia", the next award received by the young Armenian director was described by film critics and the prestigious world association of the professional film press as a film that reveals the voice of a generation that stands in solidarity with the camera even in its most intimate and vulnerable moments.

"We are delighted with the autonomy of Shoghakat Vardanyan's debut film "1489" and the effort to take on a powerful experience," said film critics.

The title of Shoghakat Vardanyan's film "1489" is the number assigned to the body of his brother Soghomon, who died in the 44-day war. The boy went missing in October 2020. Using his phone camera, the young director filmed the entire process of searching for his brother and documented the experiences he and his family had to go through.

Six months later, the brother's bones were found, but in order to find out if they were really Solomon's remains, it was necessary to conduct a DNA test. The family had to wait a year and a half for the results.
