An English list of 140 monuments of Nagorno-Karabakh has been compiled for presentation on international platforms
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the RA together with the partners forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh has compiled an English list of the most important monuments to present to the international partners. The ministry said in response to Sputnik Armenia's written request.
We announced that Nigar Arpadarai, a member of the Azerbaijani parliament and a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, announced that UNESCO refused Baku's request to go to Aghdam to assess the condition of the Stepanakert monuments.
On this topic, we tried to find out what steps the ESCS Ministry is going to take in the current situation.
It is noted that since 2020, the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has been carrying out relevant work to inform partner international organizations about the issue of the protection of religious and cultural monuments of Nagorno Karabakh.
Within the framework of the above-mentioned works, the RA ESCS Ministry has also sent a number of letters to the management of UNESCO in order to take appropriate steps to protect the cultural monuments of Nagorno Karabakh. Also, they asked to raise the cases of destruction and distortion of the cultural monuments of Nagorno Karabakh on various platforms and make a condemning statement. The issue was also raised during the meetings held with the UNESCO leadership.
"We also inform you that in the current situation, the Department of History and Cultural Monuments Preservation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia together with the forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh has compiled an English list of the most important 140 monuments with photos, description of the condition, coordinates, etc., which has been forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia with international partners. for work," said the ministry's reply.
It is emphasized that in all international platforms (World Heritage Convention of 1972, ICCROM summit, etc.), in which the representatives of the ICRC participate, continuous work is carried out and the issues of preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Nagorno Karabakh and the need for the creation of international tools are raised in speeches.
At the same time, it is reminded that after the 44-day war, the Republic of Armenia appealed to UNESCO to send a fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh, but these works were constantly obstructed by the Azerbaijani side.
