Azerbaijan is doing everything to show us that it is preparing for war, if we don't want to see it, it is our problem. Hayrapetyan: "MediaLAB.am"
Tatevik Hayrapetyan, candidate of historical sciences, Azerbaijani scholar, answers the questions of "Medialab".
"Mrs. Hayrapetyan, summing up the negotiations between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeihun Bayramov held in Berlin, what can you say, what are the reactions from the Azerbaijani side?"
"There are no reactions yet, because the meeting has just ended, but, in general, they are trying to show that they are faithful to the previous processes. I believe that the main meaning of these meetings is to keep the formal side of that process, because in reality, especially after the forced displacement in Nagorno-Karabakh, it was obvious that Azerbaijan rejects Western formats, in particular, the demand to recognize the territorial integrity of Armenia, and understanding that it can cause problems, they are now trying to keep the formal side and simulate negotiations on those platforms. But in reality, I am sure that all this will not have results, because if we look at the results on the ground, they show that Azerbaijan has completely different intentions in the region. In just the last two months, they have done about two dozen exercises and military exercises, which is a huge number and an important indicator."
"It was for the purpose you mentioned that Azerbaijan agreed to this meeting, and why did it choose the Berlin platform? Can we call this a tripartite meeting?"
"It is a general format that one of the parties, in this case, Berlin, tries to act as a mediator, in reality this is an intermediate option, because the opinion is often voiced, European officials voice that Azerbaijan can go military operations, they are trying to provide a veil with these meetings and show that they do not have such a tendency, because as a result of such meetings, before the Armenian side went, Artsakh was recognized as part of Azerbaijan, the consequence was that there are no more Armenians living in Artsakh. The roads connecting Armenia to Iran and Georgia, which they call "enclaves", have been put under threat, and in return, Armenia has received nothing, except a new threat of aggression, and this policy continues."
"In other words, Azerbaijan is preparing for war, not peace, Mrs. Hayrapetyan?"
"Azerbaijan is doing everything to show it to us, if we don't want to see it, it's our problem. Starting from rhetoric, military exercises, arms purchases, etc., everything shows that this is the goal of Azerbaijan."
