Peace is quite within reach, we do not see the same readiness from Azerbaijan. Rubinyan

Armenia is ready and is doing everything to confirm the principles agreed in the peace treaty, but it does not see the same willingness on the part of Azerbaijan.

As "Armenpress" informs, the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan said this during the panel discussion on "Peace, Development and Interdependence in the South Caucasus" within the framework of the diplomatic conference taking place in Antalya.

"Armenia is ready and doing everything to confirm the principles agreed in the peace treaty. In that case, peace is quite attainable, but we do not see the same readiness on the part of Azerbaijan.

Those principles are mutual recognition of the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan in accordance with the Almaty Declaration, the implementation of the demarcation and delimitation process also in accordance with the Almaty Declaration, the opening of regional communications on the basis of sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity," said Rubinyan.

According to him, there are 2 agreed provisions in the draft peace agreement that resolve these issues.

"Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and do not have and will not have any territorial claims against each other in the future, and the parties cannot refer to internal legislation for not fulfilling the provisions of the peace treaty.

If Azerbaijan confirms these points, then a peace treaty can be signed," Rubinyan emphasized.

The Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly assured that Armenia is not going on the path of militarization, Armenia is strengthening its defense.

"It is obvious that Armenia has security problems, and we have the right to improve our defense," Rubinyan added.
