Azerbaijan should agree that the delimitation process should take place on the basis of the Alma-Ata declaration. Vahan Kostanyan
The work of the demarcation commissions of Armenia and Azerbaijan is in progress, the parties have agreed to refrain from additional comments about the delimitation and demarcation works until there are mutual agreements on the process. According to "Armenpress", Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan announced this in a briefing with journalists, referring to the question of whether Armenia and Azerbaijan have an official agreement that the process of border demarcation starts from Tavush marz.
"We continue to be in the process. We have made our positions public. The works are in progress. There will be relevant announcements about them when there are final agreements," he said.
To the question whether there are any deadlines for returning the non-enclave territories bordering Tavush region to Azerbaijan, the deputy minister answered that there are no deadlines.
Addressing the question of why the border delimitation process is slowing down, the deputy minister answered briefly. "Armenia declares that it is ready to carry out the delimitation process on the basis of the Alma-Ata declaration and relevant maps and to restore the borders of 1991. If an agreement is reached, there will be an appropriate public communication about it."
According to the deputy minister, Armenia remains committed to the peace agenda. "We continue to be involved in the process, we continue to be interested in the process. It is not standing. Basically, it is possible to complete this process if the Azerbaijani side finally agrees to record on paper the three agreements reached at the level of the heads of state in Brussels in May and July last year. The Azerbaijani side must agree that the delimitation process will take place on the basis of the Alma-Ata declaration. Let's record it on paper. We do not see any obstacle to moving forward based on those three principles. The fact that it has not yet succeeded and official Baku has not given its consent to record these three principles is puzzling. It is not clear whether they are interested in establishing stable peace in the South Caucasus," said Vahan Kostanyan.
