I don't see any danger of escalation. Andranik Kocharyan

Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly of Armenia, considers the recent Azeri shootings meaningless and pointless, which should be evaluated.

According to "Armenpress", Kocharyan expressed such a position in a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly.

"We will do everything to ensure that such shots have a chance to be evaluated, even at the level of Euro observers, and we will make sure that there are no shots. Now the shootings are irregular, senseless and aimless," said Kocharyan, assuring that if necessary, the Armenian side will respond to the shootings.

The deputy attributes this tension to the hysterical manifestations of Azerbaijan. "Actions that don't make any sense. Doesn't solve any questions. It's just gunshots. Thanks to the actions of the observers, it is necessary to prevent these shootings from happening. If there is a shooting, those sitting around the table cannot approach the actual stages of their work," he added.

The MP does not connect the Azerbaijani shootings with the April 5 meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.

Addressing the question of whether he sees Baku escalating to military operations, Kocharyan said he does not. "Whenever we see it, we will go to the full protection of our settlements," he said.

In recent days, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire from different caliber rifles in the direction of the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces with variable intensity in a number of directions of the border zone. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia reported that on the night of April 5-6, civil infrastructures were damaged as a result of the irregular and non-targeted fire of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of the positions of the RA Armed Forces located in the northeastern part of the border zone. On April 7, between 00:30 and 1:00, a window of one of the houses in the same village was damaged as a result of irregular and non-targeted fire fired by the Azerbaijani side from small-caliber weapons in the Tegh village of Syunik marz.
