Armenia recognizes itself as an occupier? The concept of "space for security" is implemented
It can be said that the demarcation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan is underway only if Azerbaijan transfers at least one millimeter of territory to Armenia. Otherwise, we are dealing with handing over territories to Azerbaijan to prevent a hypothetical war. Political scientist Manvel Sargsyan writes about this on his Facebook page, detailing.
"Judging by the nature of the parties' agreement on the transfer of four Tavush villages, we are dealing with the second circumstance. The authorities claim that the handover of the four villages ensures security there. In other words, it is not hidden that the concept of "territory for security" is being implemented. Azerbaijan and its brother Turkey do not hide it. they notify the world that Armenia is leaving the territories occupied by Azerbaijan 30 years ago. In other words, they show a clear fact that Armenia recognizes itself as an occupier.
Whether the blackmail of Azerbaijan regarding its willingness to occupy these villages by military means is equivalent to the threat of real war is for everyone to decide. The Prime Minister of Armenia says that it is definitely equivalent.
The long-awaited readiness of Azerbaijan to recognize the borders between the states on the basis of the Alma-Ata declaration by the Armenian authorities also seems deceptive. In the contract of the commission, this topic has the following form. "The parties have reached an agreement that they will be guided by Alma Ata's 1991 resolution in the delimitation process. by declaration. The parties also agreed to enshrine this fundamental principle in the draft of the Regulations (if in the future the Agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between RA and the Republic of Armenia provides for other regulations, then the relevant provisions of the Regulations will be aligned with the principles established by the Agreement)".
In other words, today the topic of the Alma-Ata declaration, as the main principle of demarcation, refers only to the period of relocation of four villages. Why the Armenian side had to agree that this fundamental principle can be replaced by another is not at all clear. Most likely, it is quite understandable that Azerbaijan agreed to announce this fundamental principle at the price of transferring four villages to it, as well as Armenia's agreement to a possible revision of the basic principle of territorial demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
And what are the Armenian authorities counting on? That after receiving recognition from Armenia about its occupation, Azerbaijan will simply calm down and start building neighborly relations."
