The Armenian-Azerbaijani "gas romance" began to be actively nurtured along with the development of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and France. expert

Doctor of political sciences, professor Vahe Davtyan writes on his Facebook page. "It is noteworthy that the Armenian-Azerbaijani "gas romance" began to be actively nurtured from Baku and Yerevan along with the development of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and France.

Moreover, this cooperation is no longer limited to the joint extraction of gas in Absheron fields.

It has reached a strategic understanding to the extent that the key oil and gas companies of the two countries, SOCAR and TotalEnergies, implement a synchronous dividend policy. In particular, it became known the other day about the decision made by the companies, according to which both of them sell 15% of their shares in the Absheron mine to the Arab ADNOC.

Let me also remind you that in 2023 the same French TotalEnergies and the government of Azerbaijan reached an agreement on the construction of about 600 MW of thermal and electric power capacities in Nakhijevan in order to export electricity to Turkey.

As we can see, the fact that in April, Paris recalled its ambassador to Azerbaijan and, in general, the parties are talking about the diplomatic crisis, which does not prevent them from developing effective cooperation in the practical field.

It is important to understand that TotalEnergies is not an ordinary business entity. Being one of the largest companies in the world, it is often valued as a national treasure in France, and its board of directors and top management includes the French political and economic elite.

We must not forget that our friend France is one of the most pragmatic geopolitical players in Europe, and before relying on it, it is necessary to understand its real interests."
