A case of state treason was revealed. a contract soldier was detained

The investigative committee of the Republic of Armenia revealed another case of state treason. As we learn from the message released by the Central Committee, a 43-year-old contract soldier was arrested.

"During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings initiated on June 26, 2024, in the main department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for the investigation of crimes against the state, the fundamentals of the constitutional order, and public security, factual data were obtained by a 43-year-old resident of Yerevan city of apparent espionage, handing over information containing state secrets and regarding committing high treason by providing other assistance to a representative of foreign special services to carry out hostile activities.

In particular, as a result of operational-investigative activities carried out by RA NSS employees, as well as investigative and other administrative activities carried out by the body implementing the proceedings, it was found that the mentioned person, being a contract soldier and a junior sergeant, is present on the social network "odnoklassniki.ru" with his according to the user account in 2023 Since January, he has been in contact with a person who is a representative of the Azerbaijani special services, who is disguised under a fake user account on the same social site. As a result of extensive love conversations, the latter established close relations with the mentioned contract serviceman of the RA Armed Forces and recruited the latter.

After that, the 43-year-old man, based on his sexual interest, in order to maintain the contact with the communication, with the latter's task in 2023. from January to 2024 in the period between the month of February, collected and handed over the state, service secret, as well as military field information regarding the weapons of the combat position under the protection of their unit, the number and type of weapons, the location of the combat positions, the personal data of the command staff, a number of documents of the combat positions, etc. data constituting other information. Those actions caused damage to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

Based on the facts obtained as a result of the actions carried out by the RA NSS and RA CC officers, a motion was submitted to the supervising prosecutor to initiate a public criminal prosecution against the 43-year-old man under Article 418, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, which was granted. specified in the message.

A decision was made by the body implementing the procedure to arrest the accused, who is at liberty for the purpose of being presented to the court, the execution of which was assigned to the relevant department of the National Security Service of the RA.

On July 2, the latter was arrested and gave a confession. He was charged.

A petition was submitted to the court regarding the selection of detention as a preventive measure against the 43-year-old person, which was granted.

The investigation is ongoing.
