The decision to provide 10 million euros to Armenia from the European Peace Fund was officially approved

For the first time, the EU will provide 10 million euros to Armenia from the European Peace Fund. The aim of the aid to be provided to support the Republic of Armenia is to increase the logistical capabilities of the Armed Forces of Armenia and to contribute to the improvement of the protection of the civilian population in crisis and emergency situations.

According to the correspondent of "Armenpress" in Brussels, the decision was made within the framework of the EU partnership with Armenia and is based on common values, aimed at promoting peace, stability and prosperity in Armenia and the South Caucasus. It also aims to increase Armenia's resistance, speed up the interoperability of the armed forces in the future, in the event of the country's possible participation in international military missions and operations, including those organized by the EU. According to the decision, the support will provide a full tented camp for a battalion-sized unit.

According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borel, security is an important element in bilateral relations with Armenia. The High Representative noted that the EU has a mutual interest in further expanding its dialogue on foreign and security policy, also considering Armenia's future participation in EU-led missions and operations.

"The EU is committed to expanding the comprehensive political and economic partnership with Armenia, based on the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, and further strengthening relations in all dimensions. This includes the activation of dialogue and cooperation in the field of foreign and security policy, which also includes the common security and defense policy," the press release of the EU Council stated.

The European Peace Fund was established in 2021 within the framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy. The fund allows the EU to finance actions aimed at strengthening the capacities of third countries and regional and international organizations related to military and defense matters.
