Azerbaijan will not voluntarily withdraw from the occupied territories in Gegharkunik, Syunik and Vayots Dzor. Former RA ambassador to the Netherlands, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia Dzyunik Aghajanyan said this in a conversation with Sputnik Armenia.

Earlier, Tigran Harutyunyan, the administrative head of Berkaber of Tavush marz, confirmed the information that after the demarcation, the Azerbaijani border guards withdrew from one of the positions near the village.

According to Aghajanyan, the position transferred to Armenia probably had no strategic significance for Azerbaijan. It is more of a political gesture, possibly done under US pressure, aimed at creating the illusion of a positive attitude.

"Azerbaijan is not ready to withdraw its troops in other areas and will not do so. This is Turkish policy. "Wherever their soldier steps, he will not leave voluntarily," Aghajanyan said.

He also mentioned that the demarcation process is carried out with maps, which cannot be considered as a reliable basis. Aghajanyan believes that demarcation should be based on administrative, and not on the basis of maps of 1975-1976 of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces.

"The maps used now not only destroy our fortified positions in Tavush, but also allow the Azerbaijanis to gain footholds on the heights," Aghajanyan explained.
