Iran's Vice President Javad Zarif resigned 10 days after his appointment

The Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, resigned 10 days after his appointment. According to "Detq", Zarif wrote about this in his X microblog.

It is reported that Zarif mentioned several reasons for his resignation, including being under pressure after his appointment, particularly because of his children's US citizenship. He has said he plans to return to academia and focus less on domestic politics.

After Pezeshkian's victory in the elections, in early August, Zarif was appointed deputy of the Iranian president for strategic affairs by Pezeshkian's decree.

Before that, during the term of office of the former president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani (2013-2021), Javad Zarif held the position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran.Iran's long-time foreign minister is considered one of the main architects of Tehran's nuclear deal.
