We cannot under any circumstances consider Armenia’s latest elections democratic — Zatulin
We cannot under any circumstances consider Armenia’s most recent elections democratic. This statement was made by Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Director of the Russian Institute of CIS Countries.
“But since we are in alliances with Armenia and have traditionally developed ties with it, we will continue to work with Armenia based on the fact that the country is currently governed by people who have remained in power as a result of unfair, non-democratic elections,” he said.
“Moscow must adopt a principled position. And, in my opinion, that principled position should be that under no circumstances can we regard the elections that were held as democratic and in compliance with generally accepted standards,” he added.
