The state regime of Azerbaijan continues to appropriate and destroy the cultural heritage of Artsakh. Hovik Avanesov, the ombudsman of the cultural heritage of the Armenian highlands, reports that on April 4, a video shot in the occupied Kashatagh region of the Artsakh Republic was spread on the social media platforms of Azerbaijan. In the video, the Zorakhach church in the Kashatagh region is presented as an agvanak. Avanesov emphasizes that this policy distorts history.

The Zorakhachi church is located in the Kashatagh region of the Republic of Artsakh (now under the control of Azerbaijan), 52 kilometers north of Berdzor, on the left side of the Shalva tributary of the Hakar river, in the area of Arakhish village. You can read more about the church in the following link.

"Azerbaijan represents not only a significant part of the Armenian cultural heritage of Artsakh and Nakhichevan, but also Tatev Monastery, Harichavank, Etchmiadzin Mother Cathedral, Haghartsin Monastery, Goshavank, Haghpat Monastery Complex, Sevanavank, Geghardavank, Holy Cross Church of Aghtamar and other spiritual cultural values. Avanesov wrote.

According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict, any act of vandalism, theft, robbery, misappropriation, hostility or reprisal against cultural heritage is prohibited. The first Hague Protocol of 1954 prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual values in the occupied territories.
