President of the Republic of Baku, Ilham Aliyev, "Reducing the impact of mines on the environment. Mobilizing resources for a safe and green future" addressed the participants of the international conference, spoke about the problem of mined areas, blaming Armenia.

"As a result of nearly 30 years of conflicts and the occupation of its lands by Armenia, Azerbaijan suffers from the problem of demining its territories and is among the most polluted countries in the world. According to preliminary estimates, about 12 percent of the country is contaminated with 1.5 million mines and an unknown amount of unexploded ammunition," said the dictator of Baku.

Aliyev published figures indicating the number of injured citizens. It is noteworthy that he reports different numbers to different landmine conferences, claiming that their number has increased.

"Since the end of the 2020 war, 361 of our citizens, most of whom are civilians, have fallen victim to landmines, 68 of them have been killed, and 293 have been seriously injured. In general, more than 3400 of our citizens, including 358 children and 38 women, suffered from landmines since the beginning of Armenia's military aggression against the Republic of Baku (ed.). "One of the main reasons for the daily increase in the number of victims of landmines is Armenia's refusal to provide accurate maps of its own mines in the territory of the Republic of Baku (ed.), as well as the installation of explosive traps on roads, cemeteries and behind other civilian objects," the message states.
