Bulgarian defense media reported that reports indicate that Armenia is particularly interested in the Barak 8 surface-to-air missile system, a joint project of India and Israel (also known as LR-SAM or MR -SAM"), designed to provide stable air defense against various air threats.

Military analyst and researcher Leonid Nersisyan is not sure how successful the deal to acquire "MR-SAM" will be, since the country that produces that system is Israel.

"India has a license to manufacture, but in most of such cases the manufacturer (meaning Israel - ed.) may not allow the sale. Most likely, India should ask Israel whether it can sell "MR-SAM" to Armenia or not. Naturally, Israel will not allow it," Nersisyan explained in a conversation with "Detq".

According to the expert, there is no information about the details of the agreement in open sources to see the picture more clearly. "Perhaps India, for example, has paid a lot of money and has an agreement to deal with the technology in the way it wants: sell it, decide who to sell it to. That is another question, and there is no such information in open sources, so that we can say anything for sure."

Referring to the "Barak 8" ("LR-SAM" or "MR-SAM") system, Nersisyan said that it is a medium-to-long-range air defense complex, quite effective, protecting the airspace up to 120-150 km.

"Of the "С-300" we have, which are quite old modifications, the "С-300ПТ1", "С-300ПС" type "С-300" are about 2 times less range than "MR-SAM". designed and naturally much less technological, their electronics are outdated. If possible, the purchase of "MR-SAM" will be a relevant and quite interesting direction," the expert noted.

On the other hand, Nersisyan also spoke about the possibility of buying French air defense systems, noting that in his opinion, French air defense systems are not inferior to "MR-SAM" and there are no problems with the acquisition deal, unlike the latter.
