Amendment of the Constitution of Armenia should not be a prerequisite for signing a peace framework agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, James Warlick, former American co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, said at the discussion on "Are Armenia and Azerbaijan on the verge of peace" held today at the US Atlantic Council, he writes. News.am.

"At some point in the future, yes, it will be necessary to change the Constitution, but I think everyone knows that it is not easy to do that in Armenia. Such a condition will prevent the conclusion of an agreement. If the framework agreement is based on the idea that the Constitution needs to be changed, it will not happen for many reasons," he said.

According to the former ambassador, the issue of amending the Constitution of Armenia can be addressed in the agreement, where it can be mentioned that there is an intention to change the Constitution, that the amendment of the Constitution can take place in the future.

"However, the idea of changing it is not realistic," added the American former co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, James Warlick.
