Military expenses in the economies of Armenia and Azerbaijan are the highest among the countries of the former USSR. IEP:

"News.am". The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has published the report "Current Trends in Militarization", which describes trends in the world's military industry.

Among other things, the authors of the report calculated the share of military expenses in the budgets of different countries.

According to the authors of the report, the military sector occupies the most important place in the economy of the DPRK (at least 24% of the GDP according to the data of 2023), reports "Voice of America".

Among the former USSR states, Armenia (4.2%) and Azerbaijan (3.8%) are higher on the list.

It is noted that in Armenia this indicator has increased by 0.7% compared to 2008, and in Azerbaijan by 0.5%.

For example, in Georgia, that indicator is only 1.3%, while since 2008, it has decreased by 6.6%.

In Russia, that indicator was 2.4%, in Turkey - 0.7%, in Iran - 2.2%.

Military spending in the US economy is 3.1%. 15 years ago, this indicator reached 4.7%.
