Female residents aged 18 -27 will volunteer for military duty
A system of mandatory military service for female citizens on a voluntary basis will be introduced. Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan announced this at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
According to Papikyan, the mandatory military service period is 6 months, female citizens aged 18-27 can submit an application.
Application submission deadlines are set until March 1 or October 1 of the respective year. Applicants will have the right to opt out of mandatory military service before the date of enlistment.
Conscripted female servicemen are assigned to a training military unit without drawing lots, and service is organized exclusively in that military unit. For this purpose, the process of forming a women's battalion in the form of a separate military unit is underway.
The minister added that women in contract military service will be included in the administration.
Female servicemen will receive an honorarium upon the expiration of the 6-month period or early discharge due to ill health. In case of full service of 6 months, they will receive an honorarium of 1 million drams, and in case of early demobilization, the specified amount will be divided into 6 months and multiplied by the number of months actually served.
Females will be eligible to apply for 5 years contract service after the 6 month period. Those demobilized will be counted in the reserve force, will be subject to training camps and conscription.
