China get angry: new US military sales to Taiwan
The US administration has announced that it will provide $440 million worth of ammunition and logistical support to Taiwan, which is in conflict with China.
The Pentagon said in a statement that the State Department had authorized two government-requested military sales on the island.
According to the statement, it is planned to supply Taiwan with 332.2 million dollars worth of armor-piercing ammunition with a diameter of 30 millimeters, and 108 million dollars worth of spare parts for military vehicles and equipment. In order for the sale to take place, the approval of the US Congress is necessary, as well as the permission of the State Department.
"The sale will strengthen the island's resilience against China's growing military threats and gray zone tactics," Taiwan's defense ministry said in a statement.
The approval of the military sale prompted a response from China, which views the island as part of its territory.
