Aliyev assured that there will be no "Zangezur Corridor". Foreign Minister of Iran
Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated that Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, assured that there will be no "Zangezur Corridor", and the Azerbaijani side has no such tendency. According to "Detq", the Iranian state news agency IRNA informs that Abdollahian said this during a press conference held with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
"We also talked with our Armenian colleagues about the fact that they never wanted to close the Azerbaijan-Nakhijevan communication channel," he said.
Referring to the Armenian-Iranian cooperation, the Iranian Foreign Minister noted that a lot of steps have been taken in this direction in the previous year. At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that both countries have the potential to do more in this matter.
"We are serious about the trade exchange reaching one billion dollars and in the next stage we want to increase this figure to 3 billion," the Iranian official concluded.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been against the launch of the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", because such a corridor could endanger the existence of the thousand-year-old Armenian-Iranian border. It is the restraining role of the Iranian side that also contributed to the Turkish-Azerbaijani cooperation abandoning its demands in this matter to some extent.
