Iran is committed to supporting the territorial integrity of Syria. Representative of Iran at the United Nations

Said Iravani, the permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the UN, stated that Iran is committed to supporting the territorial integrity of Syria. According to "Detq", the Iranian pro-government "Mehr" news agency informs about this.

"Iran reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting the people and government of Syria in defeating the threat of terrorism. We are ready to support the restoration of their country, ensuring unity and maintaining territorial integrity," he said.

At the same time, the Iranian diplomat criticized the continuation of the West's policy of unilateral sanctions against Syria. According to him, these sanctions hinder the efforts to improve the humanitarian and economic situation of the war-ravaged country.

Iravani emphasized the importance of immediately ending the illegal and cruel sanctions against Syria. He added that they have damaged the Syrian economy and people's daily lives, while limiting the government's capabilities.

Syria has been the target of US sanctions since 1979. Washington and its Western allies have sharply tightened their restrictive measures against Damascus since 2011, when the Arab country descended into civil war.

Washington's enforcement measures were further strengthened after the passage of the Caesar Act in 2019, targeting any individual or business directly or indirectly involved in Syria's reconstruction efforts.
