Ես կարծում էի, որ պատերազմից հետո իրավիճակն այլ է լինելու․ Ալիև

I thought that the situation would be different after the war. Aliev

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to "Euronews" TV channel on July 22 in occupied Shushi. The interview was shown on August 2.

In an interview with Euronews, Aliyev answered the question of why the tension in the region did not subside after the signing of the peace agreement in 2020.

"The signing of the declaration on November 10, 2020 did not really ensure lasting peace. It was not a peace treaty. It was a declaration, de facto, an act of capitulation of Armenia. Therefore, we started to put forward certain initiatives to find the final solution to our conflict with Armenia. We did it publicly and announced that we should sign a peace treaty. But again everything was a blur. Then we developed the principles of the peace agreement, which are well-known principles of international law, namely: territorial integrity, sovereignty, mutual recognition of each other's international borders, demarcation of borders, non-use of threats of force. And we put forward our offer. So, we are a country that survived thirty years of occupation and restored justice by force.

We were the authors of the new peace process. I would not say that it is going very smoothly, but we still do not lose optimism, because now we are conducting very active negotiations at the level of the foreign ministers of the two countries," said the dictator of Baku.
