The new route change was signed by 3 leaders. The President of the Republic of Armenia on the accusations of the Prime Minister of Armenia
The purpose of the route replacing the Lachin Corridor was to preserve the villages of Berdadzor sub-region. This was stated by the President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, in an interview with Artsakh Public JSC on August 6, responding to Nikol Pashinyan's accusation that Stepanakert made the change of the route through the Berdzor Corridor independently, and even confronted the RA authorities with the facts.
"At the first stage, it was discussed where the route should go. Azerbaijan had its own proposal, Russia had its own, but in the end our proposal was accepted. The purpose of this route was to preserve our villages, the villages of Berdadzor sub-region. If we took another path, we would lose those villages and we have many other justifications why this route was necessary, that is, Karabakh's proposal was accepted, and in the end both Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan accepted it. And Armenia had announced a tender before that, had carried out design works before that, that is, there was a common understanding by everyone in terms of the route, and everyone accepted it," said Harutyunyan.
He noted that negotiations were underway in terms of the deadline, that an additional agreement should be signed, but it was not signed for various reasons. "But I have a letter from the commander of the Russian peacekeeping troops that on August 5, the Russian peacekeepers will have to leave the previous route and move their bases to a new route. It was in the territory of the NKIM, why I say NKIM, because the Russian peacekeepers were in a different status in the territory of the NKIM, and in the corridor area - in a different status. Our only task was to save the lives of our Armenians living in Aghavno, Berdzor. We asked for another 20 days delay and during those 20 days we organized the deportation of our compatriots. You could imagine what the situation would be like if the Azerbaijani army entered Berdzor, Aghavno, and several hundred of our compatriots stayed there."
The president of Artsakh emphasized that the change of the new route was signed by three leaders. "We did not sign off on the route change and this blockade is not related to the route change."
