Azerbaijan challenges the efforts of Armenia and the international community. Minister of Foreign Affairs
Azerbaijan is actually holding 120 thousand people of Nagorno Karabakh hostage. With such a way of working, Azerbaijan challenges the efforts of the international community, but first of all, RA, aimed at re-establishing real stability and peace in the region. RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this at a joint briefing with the Belgian Foreign Minister on August 22.
"We discussed in detail the extremely negative and irreversible consequences of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, the urgent session of the UN Security Council, within its framework, as well as the address to international partners and structures, including Belgium and other EU members, since December 2022, when Azerbaijan blocked the Lachin Corridor to the messages that we highly value. Nevertheless, in spite of all that and against the decisions of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6, Azerbaijan continues to block the Lachin Corridor. Of course, this is not a separate manifestation from other developments, we are continuously warning that Azerbaijan's actions are based on the open policy of subjecting Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing," said Foreign Minister Mirzoyan.
During the joint discussions, it was also emphasized that in recent days, Azerbaijan regularly violates the ceasefire in Artsakh, as well as targets the positions on the state border of Armenia. Mirzoyan noted that the mission of the European Union in Armenia also informed about this.
"Azerbaijan continues to violate all provisions of the statement of November 9, 2020, including the obligation to return Armenian prisoners of war, civilians detained by it, and efforts to find out the fate of the missing," said Mirzoyan.
According to him, Armenia expects international partners to show political will and take real steps to change Azerbaijan's warlike, inhumane, destructive behavior.
