The role of Armenian peacekeepers in the history of the Armenian armed forces
Armenian peacekeepers play an important role in the history of the Armenian armed forces. Also, thanks to them, many countries of the world saw and appreciated the type of Armenian soldier. By joining the peacekeeping mission in a number of countries, Armenia proved that it is a supporter of global security and lasting peace. This is an ideology whose bearer cannot be an aggressor.
Armenian peacekeepers participated in many international and multinational military exercises, always upholding the honor of the Armenian serviceman and receiving praise and awards from the higher command, as well as high-ranking foreign military personnel.
And so, since 2004, Armenian peacekeepers have brilliantly fulfilled their mission in the following states.
Kosovo
In 2004 Armenia joined the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo as part of the Greek peacekeeping battalion with one platoon. The Armenian servicemen entered the service in the multinational "East" brigade of Kosovo, which was located in the border zone of Kosovo and Macedonia, near the town of Ferizach. Every year, around 70 Armenian peacekeepers carry out their mission in Kosovo.
Iraq
In 2005 In January, the RA Armed Forces unit joined the multinational peacekeeping mission in Iraq, mainly participating in demining, cargo transportation and medical support operations. The RA Armed Forces unit was withdrawn from Iraq in 2009. in October.
Afghanistan
Since 2010 Since February, the RA Armed Forces unit (one platoon) has been included in the Northern Command of the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan) under the command of the Federal Republic of Germany and carries out the tasks of ensuring the security of the Kunduz airport. Before leaving for Afghanistan, the Armenian military group underwent a 4-week pre-deployment exercise in Germany. in 2011 the number of Armenian peacekeepers sent to Afghanistan was increased to 121, of which 40 contract soldiers carried out a mission in the city of Kunduz, and 81 protected the Mazari-Sharif airport and the military base of the support forces.
