The Armenian side has decided to postpone the CSTO mission on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Lavrov
During the CSTO summit in Yerevan, at the ministerial level (in 2021), the mandate of the CSTO mission on the border of Armenia with Azerbaijan was agreed. "Everything was approved, but in the morning our Armenian partners decided to postpone this topic," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the press conference following the G20 summit held in New Delhi on September 10.
Commenting on the journalists' question, whether Armenia threatened to withdraw from the CSTO, the Russian Foreign Minister said: "As for threatening to leave the CSTO, there are many politicians who allow themselves to make rather arrogant statements against Russia, we see that. It didn't start yesterday at all: we remember when Mr. Pashinyan was still a politician who was not in power and was raising the Armenian people, one of his slogans at that time was the announcement to withdraw from the CSTO and even the Eurasian Economic Union. Many attributed it simply to the election campaign, the fight for votes. Later, Mr. Pashinyan did not express such thoughts, including during the CSTO summit in Yerevan."
Sergey Lavrov also referred to Armenia's recent refusal to participate in CSTO military exercises.
"The Armenian-American military exercises seem even more strange, because it has been two years since Armenia refused to participate in the CSTO military exercises, explaining that if the CSTO condemned Azerbaijan, then Armenia would start working with the CSTO.
And when we ask why you communicate with Americans and Europeans who do not condemn Azerbaijan, they say: "Well, they are not our allies, so you must condemn." This is such a rather strange logic. But I hope that all alliance obligations that exist between us, and we value them, will still have an impact and prevail in Armenia's foreign policy," said the Russian Foreign Minister.
