Raisi assures that Iran does not seek to create nuclear weapons
The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi has stated that his country does not seek to create nuclear weapons. According to "Detq", the Iranian state news agency IRNA informs that he said this in an interview with CNN.
Raisi emphasized that Iran's uranium enrichment is a response to the European side's failure to fulfill its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement.
"In the beginning, we did not strive to achieve 60 percent uranium enrichment. They did not fulfill their obligations. What the Islamic Republic of Iran has done is the answer to the violation of the obligations of the parties that signed the agreement," he said.
Raisi also rejected the idea of enriching uranium to a level close to nuclear weapons.
"It has been officially announced that the actions we intend to initiate are not aimed at creating any kind of nuclear weapons. This is the answer to the failure of the agreement by the Europeans," he concluded.

After long negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the six nuclear powers, an agreement was signed in 2015, but US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal in 2018 and reinstated sanctions against Iran. Currently, negotiations to restore the deal are ongoing, but they have not yielded any results yet.
