Why are the models of developed countries not used in the army? Pashinyan's clarification
Massive reforms of the armed forces are taking place in the Republic of Armenia, including studying international experience. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this on November 24, while answering citizens' video questions on live air, addressing the question: why are the models of developed countries not used in the army?
"We have also recently introduced the mechanism of 24-day training camps, one of the goals of which, if we put it that way, is to go in the direction of the Swiss model in a way, when, in fact, our reservists, people who are not in military service, but themselves are in the reserve force, i.e. the country's military mobilization resource, they must participate in 24-day training sessions from time to time in order to master certain minimum military skills. Now, through the certification process, we are significantly raising the salaries of the military personnel so that our military personnel can go through that path.
There is a problem here as well, they say: why don't you raise the salary at once, because we want to make sure that the military personnel, on whose shoulders we place the obligation to maintain the security of the state, can carry this burden on their shoulders. We do not want to raise wages blindly. We want the public to be sure that if the state has entrusted someone to maintain the security of the country, that soldier can bear that responsibility. Our bitter experience has shown that there are cases when they do not know how to behave. With this, we emphasize the value of those military personnel and give special appreciation to those who have both moral, physical, and intellectual abilities," Pashinyan noted.
