The Milli Mejlis adopted a statement regarding the so-called "return of West Azerbaijanis to their historical homeland".
The statement of the representatives of the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" community presented in the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan was accepted.
According to "Detq", "Report" informs that this issue was discussed at today's plenary session of the parliament.
The text of the statement prepared by the 23 MPs representing the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" in the parliament was read by the chairman of the community board of the so-called "Western Azerbaijan", member of the Milli Mejlis, Aziz Alakbarli.
Below is the content of the announcement.
"Azeris have lived in the territory of the current Republic of Armenia for centuries. Historical documents and maps prove that the majority of the population living there were Azerbaijanis, and the majority of place names that arose in those areas belong to our people.
Unfortunately, during more than 150 years, namely 1905-1906, 1918-1921, 1948-1953 and 1987-1991. As a result of ethnic cleansing carried out in stages, not a single Azerbaijani remained in Armenia.
After the deportation of Azerbaijanis from the territory of Armenia, 20 percent of the internationally recognized territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan were occupied in 1988-1993.
For almost 30 years, the peace negotiations conducted through the mediation of the international community did not ensure the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.
In 2020 as a result of the victory of our army under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev in the 44-day national war, the territorial integrity and historical justice of our state have been restored.
Despite the heavy consequences of the occupation, it was the Republic of Azerbaijan that took the initiative to ensure long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus region, to regulate relations with Armenia on the basis of the five principles of international law, including the recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries. Unfortunately, the military-political provocations carried out by Armenia in the last 3 years have hindered the peace negotiations and made the implementation of local anti-terrorist measures inevitable at the beginning of this year.
After the establishment of sovereignty in the entire territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, there is no longer any obstacle to sign a peace treaty with Armenia. On December 7 of this year, the staff of the President of Azerbaijan and the staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia adopted a joint statement, which was an important step forward in building trust between the two states.
The representatives of the "West Azerbaijan Community" represented in the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan firmly support the initiatives and efforts of the President of Adrenejan, aimed at the establishment of permanent peace and stability in the region and the establishment of cooperative relations. Community representatives believe that recognizing the right of Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands in the territory of present-day Armenia is one of the important means of establishing trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This will be an important step towards achieving real peace between the two countries and ensuring coexistence in the region."
Talking about the peace process, the official Baku concept of "Western Azerbaijan" is a concept of forming, building and justifying a new war against Armenia. Meanwhile, one of the key provisions of that process should be that Armenia and Azerbaijan have no territorial claims against each other.
