"Detq" has already touched on the issue that Azerbaijan has started mapping Armenia's natural resources and environmental problems. In this publication, we present how Azerbaijan extorted the opportunity to host the annual international climate conference of the United Nations, "COP29" in its country, what is the relationship between this conference and the above maps, and finally, what challenges may be created for Armenia․

At the end of 2023, "thanks" to the work of Armenia's environmental and diplomatic corps, as well as a result of a decision agreed at the highest level, Armenia removed its veto and gave Azerbaijan the opportunity to hold the annual international climate conference of the United Nations, "COP29" in Baku.

Baku submitted a bid to host this summit in the summer of 2023, when Russia announced its intention to prevent the 29th UN climate summit, "COP29", from being held in European Union countries. It should be noted that according to the "COP29" charter, the 23 countries of the region must choose the host country unanimously. At that time, Bulgaria and Armenia, still members of the EU, applied to host "COP29". And since, as a result of Russia's veto, Bulgaria was deprived of the opportunity to host the summit, Armenia remained. However, Azerbaijan is also applying to host the summit.

In 2024 The host country for COP29 was to be decided during the COP28 summit, which was to be held in 2023, November 30 to December 12 in the United Arab Emirates.

During the conference, on December 7, the staff of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement, according to which the Republic of Armenia expressed its support for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). to host the bid submitted by the Republic of Azerbaijan and withdraws its candidacy. In return, the Republic of Azerbaijan releases 32 captured Armenian servicemen. In turn, the Republic of Armenia, guided by humanitarian values and as a manifestation of goodwill, releases 2 Azerbaijani servicemen.

The message regarding this "deal" also stated that as a goodwill gesture, the Republic of Azerbaijan expresses its support for the candidacy of the Republic of Armenia for membership in the "COP" Bureau of the Eastern European Group.
In order to understand the scale and importance of this conference, we should mention that last year around 100,000 representatives from different countries and international organizations arrived in the United Arab Emirates to participate in it. French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, King Charles III, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and leaders of many other countries were among the participants of the conference.

This is perhaps one of the most influential and large-scale conferences in our days, which brings unspeakable ranking, economic and influence benefits to the hosting country. And Baku, as we can see, is already in a hurry to take advantage of the opportunity provided by us and is preparing to use that global platform to completely discredit Armenia.

Let's explain what we are talking about. In the previous article, we already mentioned that Mugabil Bayramov, the president of the Public Association of Cartographers of Azerbaijan, speaking about the mapping of Armenia's mines, also said that the map will contain environmental information, for example, which rivers are polluted by which substances, and where these wastes are dumped. They are going to present that information to the participants of the "COP29" international conference.

In other words, information about Armenia's environmental problems can be used by the enemy to harm Armenia's mining industry, which is the main pillar of our economy. This is nothing but an economic war against Armenia.
Regarding the problem, "Detq" has sent a written request to the relevant bodies of Armenia and will present the answer to its readers as soon as it is received.

Let's just add that Azerbaijan has enormous environmental problems as an oil and gas producing country. Therefore, perhaps the biggest share of the blame for climate pollution and global climate change in the region lies with Azerbaijan itself. However, being familiar with the enemy's modus operandi, it can also be argued that by hosting the UN annual international climate conference, Azerbaijan will try to cover up its environmental problems and point out Armenia's shortcomings in this area, targeting the exploitation of mines in our country. Therefore, the relevant bodies of Armenia have a huge job to prevent all that and to hit the enemy first with his own tools.
