If there are problems on the Armenian side, the "Zangezur Corridor" will pass through the territory of Iran. Turkish minister
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, stated that work is being done to open the Nakhichevan route from Azerbaijan through the territory of Armenia, but there is also an alternative option through the territory of Iran. According to "Detq", a Turkish official said this in an interview with the Turkish "Hurriyet" newspaper.
Uraloglu emphasized that Azerbaijan has contacts with the Iranian side on this issue. "If there are problems on the Armenian side, Azerbaijan also has contacts with Iran regarding the possibility of a corridor passing through the territory of that country. There are two alternative options, they are under consideration."
When asked about the stage of the construction, the Turkish official said that the Azerbaijani side continues the construction works in its territory.
"At the moment, the Azerbaijani side continues construction. A tender for works was held in Nakhichevan and in our area. 106 kilometers of roads will be restored or reconstructed. As I mentioned, both alternative options are under discussion," the Turkish official emphasized.
Let's remind that at the end of last year, Baku announced that the "Zangezur Corridor" has lost its attractiveness, noting that it can implement this project with Iran. However, since the beginning of this year, Azerbaijan has put the issue back on the agenda, claiming that Armenia should provide a road with Nakhichevan without customs and border controls.

For about 3 years now, Azerbaijan has been trying to implement the so-called "Zangezur Corridor" project, which, according to Baku, should pass through the Syunik region and connect the western parts of that country to Nakhichevan. It is planned that automobile and railway roads will be built. Yerevan states that it is not against the opening of roads, but it should be under Armenian jurisdiction and should not have the logic of a corridor.
