The US expects to reduce forces in the Near East
American forces in the region will be significantly reduced, and in the coming weeks the Marine Rapid Response Force will leave the Eastern Mediterranean and return to the United States. According to "Detq", the Iranian pro-government "Mehr" news agency reports this.
The USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit are expected to begin sailing for US shores in March.
The officials, who preferred to remain anonymous, noted that the exact date of departure of the troops is still unclear. They said the Pentagon could still decide to keep the group in the region if the situation worsens rapidly.
The Marine Rapid Response Force was first deployed in July 2023 and sent to the region in October. It had previously been extended to keep these forces in the eastern Mediterranean.
Marines are also trained to support evacuation operations, which was one of the reasons why they were sent to the region at the start of the Gaza war.

According to the decision of US President Joe Biden, American troops have been withdrawn from a number of regions or their number has been reduced in recent years. The withdrawal of troops from the Middle East may be due to the ongoing war in Gaza, where there is a possibility of a ceasefire in the near future.
