It is known how many Armenian candidates are participating in the Iranian parliamentary elections

As "Detq" reported earlier, tomorrow, March 1, the elections of the 12th convocation of the Islamic Parliament of Iran and the 6th convocation of the Leadership Council will be held. More than 15,000 people (i.e., about 75%) have been confirmed as candidates out of about 20,000 people registered to be candidates by the IRGC.

7 candidates are represented in two constituencies of the Iranian-Armenian community. There are 4 candidates in Tehran and Northern Iranian-Armenian constituencies: Ara Shahverdyan, Alex Karapetyan, Joseph Amiryan and Sevan Sohrai, and in Isfahan and Southern Iranian-Armenian constituencies there are 3 candidates: Geghard Mansuryan, Arman Hovsep and Emin Hovsep.

The Iranian parliament has 290 seats, more than 52 candidates are competing for each seat. 6 female candidates are competing for each parliamentary seat.

Let us add that 61 million 172 thousand 298 people have the right to vote in Iran. the number of men with the right to vote in the country is 30 million 945 thousand 13, and the number of women is 30 million 227 thousand 165.

Three and a half million eligible voters (18 and older) are voting for the first time.

According to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 2 of the parliamentary seats of national minorities are allocated to the Armenian community, one of which belongs to the Armenians of Tehran and the North, and the other to the Armenians of the South of Iran. As in the case of the previous elections, the Armenian community is actively participating in the elections, nominating a total of 7 candidates.
