After the 44-day war of 2020, a certain Russian contingent was deployed in Syunik region to solve security problems. As "Armenpress" informs, this was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs of the National Assembly, Armen Khachatryan, in a briefing with journalists, referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that there is no mandate and contract for the presence of Russian border guards in the Inner Hand region.

"Perhaps you have forgotten that there was a 44-day war in 2020, after that peacekeeping troops were introduced into the territory of Artsakh, after that a certain Russian contingent was deployed in Syunik marz to solve security issues. Due to the situation, yes, it happened that way. But now an investigation is being carried out in order to answer all those legal problems: who has what mandate and where," Khachatryan noted.

Khachatryan answered the clarifying question: did the Russian border guard troops have any legal basis? "Due to the situation in 2021, they were deployed there purely to solve security problems." Then he added that they will get an answer by examining the legal basis.

According to him, the investigation is taking place jointly with the Ministry of Defense, the National Security Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve all these legal issues.
