Azerbaijan will deepen by about 15 km, sharply approaching the Lori region. Seyran Ohanyan. "Azatutyun""
Former Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan warns that if Prime Minister Pashinyan hands over to Azerbaijan the territories he is talking about, then Azerbaijan will deepen about 15 kilometers in that territory, causing serious security problems for Armenia, Azatutyun writes.
"In terms of defense, a deep curve is created there, if we look at the map of the Republic of Armenia, we will see that our borders are divided, together with the enclave, a depth of almost 15 km is created in that area and it is sharply approaching the borders of Lori region," he said.
Seyran Ohanyan emphasizes that handing over these territories will lead to serious strategic problems, because the Azerbaijani army will stand on the road that connects Armenia to Georgia.
"It connects the favorable direction, which is extremely important for Armenia: exit to Georgia, Russia, and downstream, exit to Iran. In other words, there will be obstacles on the way from Iran to Armenia, Georgia, and Russia," said the former defense minister.
"Azatutyun". "If these territories are surrendered, then we lose heights of strategic importance?"
Ohanyan. "Of course, we are losing various points of strategic significance, there will be a height, a road that provides the life of our country, especially all communications and roads planned in that direction."
"Azatutyun". " In other words, won't it be possible to control the Armenia-Georgia road from other points?"
Ohanyan. "In any case, an opportunity can be found, but it will be quite difficult to build a bypass road at that point, which is being talked about, because there are enclaves behind that point, a road will not be built even through the enclaves, which means that a rather serious problem will arise. of road traffic in that area."
The former minister of defense emphasizes that the border area of Tavush region is one of the most protected points in Armenia today, and after the surrender of territories, the transfer of defense infrastructures may have unpredictable consequences.
"And if the defense is being moved, engineering equipment and structures should be built in the new sector, and the defense should be strengthened there. And each new defense is so vulnerable that they can carry out attacks in that direction as well, because that direction also refers to enclaves," emphasized Seyran Ohanyan.
