Does Baku need a mechanism for investigating incidents? MP about Pashinyan's proposal. "Sputnik Armenia"

Baku is unlikely to agree with the idea of the Armenian authorities to create a joint mechanism for investigation of border incidents. In a conversation with "Sputnik Armenia", a similar opinion was expressed by Tigran Abrahamyan, member of the "I have honor" faction of the RA NA, defense and security committee.

Earlier it became known that the RA Prime Minister's staff proposed to the Baku President's office through diplomatic channels to create a bilateral mechanism for investigating violations of the ceasefire regime. This was done after the accusations made by Baku, when they announced the alleged violations of the ceasefire regime by the RA Armed Forces.

The MP emphasizes that Baku has always used and continues to keep 2 tools in its arsenal: putting pressure on the negotiation process by increasing border tension and anti-Armenian propaganda in the media.

According to Abrahamyan, as long as Baku does not face a real obstacle for such tactics, he does not see the need to abandon it.

"It turns out that Yerevan's proposal, to put it mildly, is hardly accepted in Baku with enthusiasm," said the deputy.

Abrahamyan reminded that the idea of creating an investigation mechanism in the context of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict was discussed 10-15 years ago in connection with the contact line in Artsakh. According to him, at that time Armenia was actively advancing this approach, and the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group supported it. The issue gained new urgency after the April 2016 war, and the technical details of the introduction of investigation mechanisms were even discussed.
